KRENTJE BRIJ (Raisin Soup)

Ingredients
Krentjebrij - Raisin Soup 6 cups water
1/3 cup pearl barley
4 - 5 inch cinnamon stick
1 cup currants and/or raisins
1/3 - ½ cup sugar, to taste
1 package red jelly powder (cherry or raspberry)

Instructions
1. In a pan bring water, barley and cinnamon stick to a boil; simmer for 45 minutes.
2. Meanwhile, soak currants and/or raisins in warm water. Drain and add to barley mixture.
3. Continue to simmer for another 15 to 30 minutes.
4. Add sugar to taste.
5. Add jelly powder, stir well to dissolve.

Serve cold
