HACHEEIngredients1 pound stewing beef 3 large onions (chopped) 150 grams butter or margarine 1 Tbsp. flour 1 bay leaf 2 cloves dash of pepper 3 - 4 Tbsp. vinegar 3/4 liter beef bouillon (heated) 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. sugar Instructions 1. Heat butter and fry the stewing beef until it is nice and brown. Remove beef from pan. 2. In the same manner fry the onions until they too are golden brown. 3. Add beef back into pan. 4. Sprinkle flour over the beef and onions and on low heat stir until the flour is a light brown. 5. Slowly stir the bouillon through the above mixture. 6. Add the vinegar, pepper, salt and sugar. 7. Slowly simmer for 2 ½ hours until meat is tender. 8. Just before serving mix 1 cup water with a package of gravy mix and slowly add to the hachee. 9. While constantly stirring bring to a boil and simmer for another minute or two (check your gravy mix package). 10. Prior to serving remove bay leaf and cloves. Serve over boiled or mashed potatoes. As sides serve applesauce and cucumber salad. |
